The test for the new MEDIA EFEKTOR competition model was a duathlon held last Saturday. With its phosphorescent color to start with, just taking them out of the box was motivating, and seeing how they’re folded and packed will remind you of everything X-BIONIC brings out to the market – all is done with tons of TLC, each box comes with clear instructions so you can care for your socks properly.
On the one hand, there are very clear specifications regarding foot size and the calf area. It’s important that you pay attention as much to one as the other. The size of the calf can be measured with a sewing tape easily and will afford you vital comfort later. As Mikel Kolino indicates in the accompanying video, the sock should be placed properly – the sock itself has a marked line to illustrate how it should be lined up. If the sock size is correct, there should be no extra fabric at the toe nor should it be too tight.
The sock, though it falls into the compression category, should have a nice relaxed fit. The compression on this particular model is designated as HIGH, but should not produce any undesired discomfort. There may be impressions on your skin following hours of intense sports activity, but this should be no cause for alarm.
My feelings during the run and cycling phases of the duathlon were really good; I never felt the socks too tight and they held my calves in those parts of the race where my muscles needed extra support.
When your body reaches its limit, sports apparel does as well. However, the more support you have, the better your performance will be.
