Q is for quaerere (“research” in Latín). 36.5 degrees is the Celsius temperature of a healthy body. The real aim of high-performance sports clothing, whether it is cycling, cross-country skiing, climbing, mountaineering, should be the preservation of a stable body temperature.
Each piece of clothing in the Q36.5 Essential Collection is unique; there are no concessions by the technical design teams that labor to get things right for active cyclists who appreciate the difference.
It is not only a brand but an ongoing exercise in experimentation, without limits in innovation that is capable of surprising us with one collection after another because of its futuristic vision of what high-end cyclist clothing will be.
Q36.5’s slogan says it all: “Absolutely Equipment”.
THE TEST (see adjoining Photo Gallery)
All of us have in mind certain brands that serve as references where quality is concerned. Many of us, in fact, are ardent supporters of these brands which make a difference and make us feel different from the pack. Q36.5 is like nothing you have experienced before. It is something distinctive, unique and exclusive from a design and quality perspective.
When you pull out the new Q36.5 Essential Collection from the box, you feel its tact, light weight and elasticity. It is as though you were listening to a celestial chorus.
Cycling Jersey L1
We have in our hands a cycling jersey with an exquisite touch that is minimalist in design and has a weight of 114 grams. This is why it is ideal for practicing cycling in the most optimal conditions. We also must highlight the breathability of this garment with its ultra-fast drying time, something to be considered at this time of the year when the heat sets in and perspiration takes over.
With a perfect ergonomic adjustment for the pedaling position and thanks to its elasticity, it is a garment which will prove a real treat during any cycling outing.
In the rear part of the jersey, there are three invisible, easy-access pockets which are internally ventilated and a highly practical zippered pocket to keep small belongings.
The kimono-style sleeve is one of the features that we are seeing more and more of. With this jersey, there is a touch of elegance without an elimination of comfort.
The facile and intuitive 3 mm Camlock zipper comes in handy during those split-second moments of haste.
Salopette L1 Cycling Tights
The chamois (inner lining) is one of those features that we examine with a magnifying class when we select a pair of cycling tights. Special attention is reserved for the chamois used with the Salopette L1 Essential cycling tights. In this chamois, the Super Molded or shaped (SM) model has a foam lining that has been calibrated in accordance with the same outline of variable density and thickness in the perineal and ischial areas, genitals and the buttocks. Such extreme sophistication and painstaking perfection ensure absolute comfort for the cyclist. The use of a unique shaping technique is present to smooth out variations in the padding and afford smoother contact with the skin. These extremely high-performance cycling tights are designed to provide solid and substantial support.
After holding these heretofore unseen tights in our hands, the first question we ask: Did they get the sizing wrong? Well, no, it is the right one after all. Initially, there may be a short period of adaptation, but following a few minor adjustments, things will be where they should be, resulting in a perfect adjustment to one’s anatomy with no untoward movement.
Comfortable from all the amateur sitting positions, ranging from a vertical climb to a strictly racing mode, and placing maximum pressure on the perineal area while taking extreme angles to the limit during a good pedal, there is never any feeling of numbness.
Due to its ergonomically designed features, one has the sensation of wearing a second skin, forgetting completely the discomfort one suffers with garments after many hours of being on a bike. We should also point out that there is perfect adjustment in the thigh area which considerably reduces fatigue.
Due to the fiber construction, drying is uncommonly brief. I would even venture to say that not once did the tights appear wet, even when they were soaked during a downpour.
To sum up, this garment weighing 160 grams is one of those pieces of sports clothing that encourage one to go out for a long ride, one that is uplifting rather than a drag from start to finish.
This pair of cycling socks weighs a mere 32 grams. There may not be any lighter socks in today’s market. It seems silly, but thanks to their light weight they are exceedingly breathable.
They have a high look to them, and come with two reinforced areas: the metatarsal and the Achilles tendon regions. These socks are excellent for unbearably hot days, facilitating natural refrigeration in the soles which ensure a feeling of well-being.
The socks are available in three colors: white, green and orange.
Given the afore-mentioned, we have to admit that we were pleasantly surprised with this brand which no doubt will carve a niche for itself in the sports apparel sector.
This is not a collection with a wide range of choice, as far as models and colors are concerned, but, in my opinion, I hardly think it necessary, given the fact that it is a smart collection that will please one and all.
Q36.5 employs a small group of expert partners to manufacture its fabrics (new materials are often developed exclusively for Q36.5 apparel) and clothing. The choices made by these collaborators are based not only on an ability to generate products of high quality and sophisticated technical manufacturing knowledge. They are also the result of working side by side with suppliers and customers to achieve a more efficient work pace. There exists a clear and fluid, first-person dialogue (frequently done on a weekly basis) regarding all factors related to product development.
It is this hybrid exchange of ideas, samples, visions, questions and assorted areas of expertise that is, and has always been, the driving force behind technical innovation and
sports apparel. I can testify that this is not just sales talk because in an interface with the distributor, he suggested doing something special with one of the garments on my behalf.
Q36.5 has its headquarters in Bolzano, south of the Tyrol, smack dab in the Italian Dolomite Mountains.
At the beginning of the 1980s, Luigi Bergamo, a member of the Bolzano Veloce Club cycling team, developed an interest in cyclist apparel. Following a professional trajectory that has spanned more than 20 years working in sports apparel sector for various top brands, he founded the Q36.5 brand during the summer of 2013.
With a highly personal vision at the vanguard of cycling apparel, Luigi Bergamo developed something totally different to anything previously seen. There is no question that Italians do have a special taste when it comes to design.
Currently, the entire Q36.5 collection is produced in limited edition and manufactured exclusively in Italy.
